Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students of Monty Tech,
We have flipped the calendar page to August and, while I recognize that many students and families are still enjoying their vacations, the time has come for me to welcome everyone back to Monty Tech for the 2017-2018 school year!
Please take a moment to look through all of the contents of the recently mailed Welcome Back packet (front and back) as there is a combination of informational notices, as well as, forms that you should fill out and return on the first day of school. In particular, Emergency/Health Record forms and Student Information Verification forms are essential for the school to properly communicate with families. In addition, I want to remind families that Free/Reduced Lunch Applications must be filled out annually. Of course, students will be very excited to review their schedules. I would ask all parents of incoming Freshmen to review Mrs. Favreau’s letter that explains how those students’ placements were determined. However, all students should be reminded that schedules are still fluid as we adjust class sizes. Guidance counselors will be available intermittently during the upcoming weeks to answer questions. While this is not a time to “teacher shop”, if there is a problem, please make an appointment with your counselor by calling 978-345-9200, ext. 5244.
In terms of important initiatives for this fall, as most families are aware, we are very excited to launch our newest Chapter 74 vocational offering – Animal Science. This program will be available as part of the Freshmen exploratory offerings and classes will be held in the main building in our “Green Room”. It is our sincere hope that the ongoing student-construction of the Veterinary Clinic, the eventual permanent home of the program, will be completed in the spring. We are also very pleased to inform families that the Machine Technology program has gone through a nearly $500,000 renovation this summer which includes new equipment and the addition of a precision measuring lab. We expect that this facility will become a model for such instruction across the state.
Furthermore, Monty Tech will continue forward with its 1:1 Chromebook Program. At the end of the past school year, a student survey indicated that this initiative has had a strong positive effect on student learning, and we look forward to continuing this effort in our classrooms. As an important notice for families, we have adjusted how the devices can be insured in terms of accidental damage. Families will receive information on this change in a separate package. Families should also notice that Monty Tech will be launching a new web page in the next few weeks. We hope that this page enhances the school-to-community relationship and provides families with all necessary information.
Finally, all students and parents should be aware of the following dates:
- Freshmen Orientation – August 22nd & 23rd
- First Day for All Students – August 30th
- Freshmen and New Student Parent Night – August 30th – 6:00 pm
- Monty Tech Back to School Night – September 7th – Sophomores and Seniors – 5:00-6:30pm
Freshmen and Juniors – 6:30-8:00pm
I hope the remainder of the summer is enjoyed by all, and we look forward to another exciting year at Monty Tech.
